Sync.com: Zero-Knowledge Storage from Canada

Sync.com is a secure cloud storage provider headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Unlike Google Drive or Dropbox, Sync.com uses zero-knowledge encryption by default, meaning your files are encrypted before they leave your device. Not even Sync.com can access your data, ensuring true privacy regardless of legal demands.

Operating under Canadian privacy laws, the service focuses on compliance and security without compromising user rights. There is no ad tracking, data mining, or profiling—your storage remains strictly yours. It offers robust features for file syncing, sharing, and version history, suitable for both personal and business use.

Accessible via web, iOS, Android, and desktop apps, Sync.com integrates smoothly into your workflow. While it focuses on paid plans for full access, the security infrastructure is designed for those prioritizing privacy over cost.

Below you will find details on creating an account, configuring sync, and securing your files.

Comparison: Free versus Paid Version

Sync.com no longer offers a free tier. They currently provide three paid Personal plans tailored to different storage needs: 150 GB, 1 TB, and 5 TB. All plans include end-to-end encryption, secure file sharing, and cross-device synchronization. View comparison of current plans.

Registration

You can register directly on the Sync.com website. Since there is no free trial or free tier, you will need to select one of the paid plans (150 GB, 1 TB, or 5 TB) during the registration process to activate your account.

Setting Up Sync.com on Your Devices

Once subscribed, you can easily add your Sync.com account to your email client or file manager. Install the desktop sync client for Windows and macOS, or use the mobile apps for iOS and Android to automatically synchronize your files across all devices. See setup instructions.

Migrating Files from Your Previous Cloud Provider

Refer to this guide for instructions on migrating files from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or other cloud services to Sync.com. For manual migration, download your files from your existing provider and upload them to your new Sync.com account via the web interface or sync folder.
